Our Story

Joel and Chris met through their best friend, Diana, who worked with Chris at his first job moving back to Bakersfield. She invited Chris to her house to meet her roommates and introduced him to Joel. To be honest, they did not click right away and it was partially due to Chris’ nature of being more on the quiet and reserved side when meeting new people–if you know Joel he is quite the opposite! Their “first date” was a set-up by Diana, who suspiciously could not make it to their dinner-and-drinks outing before going to a movie. It was the first time they were alone together, so naturally Chris was a bit shy and unsure how the evening would turn out. Joel, being the naturally charismatic and outgoing person he is, encouraged Chris to get comfortable with him and they bonded over black-and-tans, video games, traveling, and wanting to get out of Bakersfield some day! Fast forward nine years later, they’ve had the opportunity to move to Southern California and travel each year celebrating their love, with Chris proposing to Joel in Maui the day after his birthday (IYKYK) this past year. It is one of their happiest moments together and they cannot wait to be husbands-in-life in August 2022!

You know what they say, the second child is always the best child! I’m smart, funny, and got the booty, I mean beauty, from my Momma. In all seriousness, I grew up with three brothers—considered the good kids wherever we went, but chaos at home for my Mom and Stepfather. When I turned 18, I decided to move to Bakersfield where I began to figure out life for myself. I’ve met a lot of great people along the way, many of them becoming my close friends. It’s been almost a decade since I’ve met the man I will spend the rest of my life with.

I’m one of those people that, upon first meeting, can come off reserved and a bit shy since I don’t open up to people right away. I grew up as an only child, so I was comfortable keeping to myself and hesitant about letting others get to know the real me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve been able to shed that insecurity which has allowed more people into my life that love, support & accept me for who I am, just like my future hubby =). When you get to know me, you’ll find that I’m someone who cares deeply about his loved ones and is a friend you can count on to talk and listen to you when you need it. I’m so excited to be tying the knot with my handsome man after nine long years!
